Responsibility: Inspect fixtures using the CMM and determine actions needed to get the fixture within engineering specifications. Creates inspection report for customer validation.
Job Duties
- Interpret fixture inspection drawing and write CMM program using Calypso
- Identify possible inspection issues and collaborate with engineering on inspection strategy
- Program offline using 3D model before fixture is ready for inspection
- Operate forklift to move fixtures into inspection area
- Operate overhead crane to load fixtures onto CMM
- Mount fixtures to CMM surface plates ensuring that mating surfaces are clean
- Inspect fixture in CNC mode using Zeiss CMM
- Evaluate out-of-tolerance characteristics on CMM report and remove fixture details to determine root cause
- Operate surface grinder to remove material from dial-in shims and get out-of-tolerance characteristics within tolerance
- Use micrometers, calipers and optical comparator when features are unable to be checked using the CMM
- Create a inspection report that can be sent to customers and is easy to understand
- Assist tool makers with inspections of individual details prior to final inspection
- Write CMM programs for short-run prototype jobs
- Data entry for statistical analysis on prototype jobs
- Identify visual defects and quality issues
- Must be unbiased in approach to inspection results
- Keep work area clean and organized
Qualifications
- Previous experience with operating Coordinate Measurement Machine, Zeiss/Calypso experience is a plus
- Experience with MS office applications
- Must be a team player and work well with others in process development, corrective action and problem solving
- Must enjoy a fast-paced manufacturing environment, results, oriented and self-motivated
- Committed to continuous improvement principles
- Ability to effectively handle multiple activities simultaneously and successfully
- Must be able to properly use quality gages – Micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, height gauges, indicators, etc.
- Ability to identify and make quality determination for visual defects
- Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills
- Extensive experience in tool and die and/or machining
- Strong knowledge of products
- Have the ability and skill to teach employees as required
- Have to ability to stand for long periods of time and lift 50-100 pounds consistently
- Detail Oriented
